Chronic Cellars Purple Paradise, Paso Robles

$15-$30, Red Blend

Gothic Score

I’ve seen this vineyard around and have been wanting to give Chronic Cellars a trip around the tongue. Tonight I’ll be diving face first in to their Purple Paradise red blend. To be honest I drank the first 3/4 last night, so I’ll have to write quickly while I complete my mission. One glass doesn’t last long in the gothic wine repository.

First thing to note is the 14.5% alcohol content, that makes me happy. Or drunk. Same thing. The bottle is adorned with a lovely skull, let’s call it nu-goth. Otherwise nothing extremely striking about the design. Nevermore, time to drink and see what luck we have inside the glass.

This is a very addictive jammy wine, extremely smooth and velvety with bold hints of strawberry and lots of dark bittersweet cherries. I’d recommend this with any form of chocolate, breakfast cereal, doughnut, or savory slice of bacon. It’s a cool wine with a drink-the-whole-bottle attitude, so naturally I will.

I’m enjoying this wine until it’s gone, then looking for more bottles from¬†Chronic Cellars,¬†they’re on to some great stuff so far. They apparently have a wine club that delivers, so I might just do that to avoid going outside -The Dark Wino
